Imaging
Transesophageal & 3D Echo
High-resolution view of the heart through the food pipe — used for complex cases.

What it is
A transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) uses a probe gently passed into the food pipe to get a very close, detailed view of the heart's valves and chambers. It is essential before many interventional and surgical procedures.
When it's needed
- Suspected clot in the heart before cardioversion
- Endocarditis (heart valve infection)
- Before mitral valve repair / valve clipping
- During ASD/VSD device closure
- When standard echo images are unclear
How it's done

A mild sedative is given. The throat is numbed with a spray. The probe is passed gently — most patients tolerate it well. The test takes 20–30 minutes.
Recovery

Rest in the observation area for 1 hour. Food and water are allowed once the throat sensation returns (about 2 hours).
