A white paper published in The Journal of Clinical Hypertension argues for a national screening protocol starting at age 30 for hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and lipid disorders. Current Indian national programs largely target those over 40 — leaving early-onset disease in younger adults undetected.
Why 30, not 40
NFHS-5 data show 28.1% of Indian adults are hypertensive. Indians develop coronary disease 5–10 years earlier than Western populations. Detecting elevated BP, dysglycaemia, and dyslipidaemia in the early 30s allows lifestyle change — and, where needed, treatment — before silent damage accumulates.
Why it matters for you
If you are 30 or older, a once-a-year check of BP, fasting sugar, and lipid profile is no longer optional. Book a basic preventive cardiology check at your nearest cardiologist's OPD.
