With the monsoon approaching, civic bodies including the Ahmedabad municipal authority have stepped up anti-mosquito campaigns. Cardiac patients face additional risks during dengue, malaria, and typhoid season — high fever, dehydration, and platelet changes can stress the heart.
What changes for cardiac patients
Fever increases the heart rate and oxygen demand. Dehydration drops blood pressure and can precipitate arrhythmia or low-flow ischaemia. In dengue, the platelet drop matters especially for patients on antiplatelets or anticoagulants — dose adjustment may be needed under medical supervision.
Practical protection
Use mosquito repellent and bed nets. Eliminate stagnant water around your home — coolers, planters, tyres. If you develop fever lasting more than 48 hours, severe body aches, or bleeding gums, get a CBC and dengue panel. Tell your cardiologist about any fever — do not adjust your blood thinner on your own.
