Diagnostic
Stress Tests (TMT, Stress Echo, DSE)
Checking how your heart performs when it has to work harder.

What it is
Stress tests look for hidden artery blockages by recording the heart's response to exercise (TMT, stress echo) or a stress medicine (Dobutamine Stress Echo). They are often the first step in evaluating chest pain.
When it's needed
- Chest discomfort on exertion
- Borderline ECG findings
- Risk-factor screening in selected patients
- Assessing exercise capacity after a heart attack or surgery
How it's done

You walk on a treadmill at gradually increasing speed and slope while ECG and BP are recorded. Stress echo adds heart ultrasound at peak exercise. DSE uses medicine instead of treadmill for patients who cannot walk.
Recovery

You may feel mildly tired. Normal activity resumes within an hour.
